What Happens After a

Check the decedent's records, attorney files, and safe deposit box.

Determine the Type of Proceeding

Probate (with a will), Administration (no will), or Small Estate (under $50K).

Gather Required Documents

File the Petition

Submit your petition and supporting documents to the Nassau County Surrogate's Court.

Serve Citation to Interested Parties

Attend the Court Hearing
